Congratulations to Dr Maeve Keaney, winner of the 2024 GM Health and Care Champion Lifetime Achievement Award! The awards ceremony took place at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, honouring some remarkable contributions to healthcare.
Dr Keaney founded REACHE (Refugee and Asylum Seekers Centre for Healthcare Professionals Education) North West, which is dedicated to supporting refugee and asylum seeker doctors and health professionals in securing NHS employment. Her unwavering commitment and advocacy for these healthcare professionals have made her a well-deserved winner. You can learn more about REACHE on My Hub.
Friend and former colleague, Dr Ann Smalldridge, said: “Well done Maeve, you are a real role model for anyone who has a vison and a passion, to see it through with drive and determination.”
A moment was also taken on the night to honour Michael Atkinson, Salford volunteer dining companion, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Mike was the winner of the GM Outstanding Contribution Award, for his amazing work giving over 300 hours volunteering time at Salford Royal. Mike's aunt accepted the award on his behalf at the ceremony.
