NCA receives Princess Royal Training Award for upskilling front line leaders

22 August 2024

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust Talent and Organisational Development team have received the Princess Royal Training Award for its Front-Line Leader Apprenticeship.

The programme was developed to help upskill future leaders across the organisation over a 13-month period. The apprenticeship enables colleagues to develop Leadership knowledge, skills, and behaviours whilst obtaining management experience.

Since 2021, 128 people are studying or have successfully completed the apprenticeship, this has led to an increase of 18% in staff retention figures in apprentices’ departments, improvements in Leadership related National Staff Survey themes and a variety of service level improvements obtained through apprentices Quality Improvement projects.

Siobhan Conway leadership and management apprenticeship lead at the NCA, said: “We are proud and deeply honoured to receive this award, which truly represents the collective hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team. This recognition is not just a testament to our efforts, but also to the commitment of our apprentices who continually strive for excellence. Most importantly, this award reflects the positive impact we are making on our colleagues, service users, and the wider NCA communities.”

Amy’s self-assessment dashboard supports NCA improvement journey!

One of our current apprentices Amy Taylor, senior compliance facilitator has developed a new self-assessment app and dashboard as part of her project management task on the course.

The dashboard allows colleagues across the organisation to input their ratings based on their own performance and to measure this against Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.

Lucy Blunn, assistant director of assurance and compliance, said: “Amy’s work is the centrepiece of the organisations CQC preparedness programme. She has managed and led on this project effectively and collaborated with colleagues working in digital and in leadership positions.

“This is an excellent solution to help us shape our improvements and ensure we are moving in the right direction in terms of our ratings.”
