Oldham CDC is home to leading cancer diagnosis equipment

13 March 2025

Patients in Greater Manchester now have access to some of the world’s most advanced diagnostic technology to help to diagnose cancer faster, earlier and better.

Thousands of patients a year will benefit from a new digital PET-CT scanner that is permanently based on-site at the Oldham Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

Oldham CDC partner, Alliance Medical's Managing Director Pete Winchester, welcomed Sir Richard Leese CBE, Chair of NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board, to cut the ribbon at a celebratory launch event with key stakeholders and colleagues from Oldham.

The addition of Oldham PET-CT Centre will significantly increase scanning capacity, up to 35 patients per day and is being delivered in partnership with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

PET CT scanning is a medical test that combines two types of imaging - PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and CT (Computed Tomography) to give a detailed look inside the body. It requires a small amount of radioactive tracer which is injected, and is particularly useful to highlight areas of cancer activity and other diseases such as dementia.
