The NCA is thrilled to announce that the Salford Care Organisation's chronic airways support team (CAST) has been shortlisted for the Innovation and Improvement in Reducing Healthcare Inequalities Award at the highly esteemed HSJ Awards.

The HSJ Awards, known for spotlighting the best in UK healthcare, received over 1,350 entries this year. From these, 234 projects and individuals have made it to the final shortlist, showcasing the impressive innovation and dedication found within the nation's healthcare system. The recognition highlights the team’s exceptional contribution to healthcare and secures their spot at the prestigious awards ceremony set to take place later this year.

Joanne Veichmanis, Divisional Director of Nursing at Salford said: "Being shortlisted for the Innovation and Improvement in Reducing Healthcare Inequalities Award at the HSJ Awards 2024 is a tremendous honour. It’s a huge boost for our dedicated and hardworking team, especially in a year with such tough competition. Regardless of the final result, we already feel like winners and are proud to share our success with colleagues across the healthcare sector."

CAST’s groundbreaking initiative, addresses health inequalities in the management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), has garnered attention making use of the NHS Greater Manchester Hospital at Home initiative to help improve outcomes of adults living with this condition.

By utilizing telehealth services, telephone guidance, and integrated care teams, CAST has significantly expanded access to care and has helped reduce health disparities in underserved communities.

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan also praised the finalists, including the NCA’s CAST initiative: “It’s a pleasure to congratulate our finalists. The HSJ Awards are more than just a celebration of success—they’re a platform for shaping the future of the NHS. We look forward to recognizing these impressive achievements at the ceremony in November.”

The winners of the HSJ Awards will be announced during a ceremony at Evolution London on November 21. The event will not only honour the best in healthcare but also serve as a well-deserved thank you to those who are driving innovation and improving patient outcomes across the sector.
