Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service - Oldham Community

Our service is for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties which can’t be met with support from Health Visiting, educational placement or other support service staff.

We also provide a service for adults who stammer, making this an all-age pathway.

The children we see sometimes have other health services/ professionals involved in their care. We work collaboratively with parents, health and social care staff and schools/ settings.

We aim to provide full assessment and targeted interventions to maximise the child / young person’s skills, promote independence, and support social relationships and learning.

Assessments are often multi-agency as we work with a number of other health, social care and education services.

We provide specific advice, training and modelling of strategies to the people that are closest to the child so that they can deliver our advice and meet the child’s speech, language and communication needs. This involves the parents/ family and often includes the school or nursery too.

We contact the family via phone or letter to provide appointments for assessment and/or intervention.

The service is delivered across a variety of community settings ( e.g. schools, nurseries, the child's home and clinics). Children and young people and our adult patients are usually invited into clinic initially where we can meet them and their family member/s.
