The HMR (Heywood Middleton & Rochdale) IV Therapy Team provides Intravenous Antibiotic Therapy to patients in a clinic or home setting if bed bound – This is to facilitate early discharge from hospital and to help avoid hospital admissions. We accept Referral from Wards, Consultants, GPs, Community Matrons, Practice Nurses and District Nurses. IV Therapy (or intravenous therapy) involves providing a liquid-based medicine directly into a vein. People may need IV Therapy for a short or long term illness, or following surgery or an accident.
Service is available 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year.
The team provides intravenous therapy to patients at a community clinic close to home or at home for bed bound patients. Therapy is usually delivered intravenously as it is the fastest way to commence treatment. Having this therapy in the community or at home reduces the need for a long stay in hospital.
IV Therapy will be delivered in a community clinic at Rochdale Infirmary or in a patient’s home if bed-bound by a specially trained nurse
By providing effective and efficient IV Therapy in the community we aim to:
- Support the patient to be more independent
- Minimise disruption to a patient’s everyday life
- Help avoid patient’s having to go into/stay in hospital unnecessarily
