The Pain Management service runs outpatient clinics and theatre sessions at Fairfield General Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary. The service is led by Consultant Anaesthetists who specialise in Pain Management and Chronic Pain.
Our Pain Consultants offer compassionate and structured support with their treatment plans which aim to improve quality of life for the individual.
- Pain Management Procedures (currently take place in Operating Theatres)
- Medication
- Lifestyle Advice
Initially a telephone consultation will be booked where the Pain Consultant will assess the referral and discuss management options. The appointment will be confirmed via letter, and we also offer text reminders for appointments.
In some instances, a face-to-face appointment may be necessary and will be clearly communicated by our booking team. If attending Outpatients please bring your appointment letter where the reception staff will be able help with directing you.

Once a consultation with the Consultant is completed it may be deemed appropriate to be listed for a Pain Procedure.
Pain procedures at present take place at both Fairfield General Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary in a Theatre setting. If attending theatres please bring your letter and ensure you follow pre-admission instructions which will be communicated by consultant and booking team.
GPs can refer into a Specialist Pain Tier Two Services for people who they feel need further help in managing their Chronic Pain. The Pain Service at Bury work in partnership with these services when consultant intervention is deemed appropriate and necessary. At this point, the Tier Two Service will refer to the consultant service which is Tier Three.
The service works closely with Oldham MSK and Bury Integrated Pain Service.
