If you would like to be prayed for by a chaplain or in an act of worship, please contact the Chaplaincy team at the hospital the patient is being cared for at.
Attending prayer services and visiting Chaplaincy
All patients, visitors and colleagues are welcome to attend services, times of prayer and celebrations of culture and belief. If you require assistance travelling to the Chaplaincy facilities, please contact the Chaplaincy team directly or ask a ward-based member of staff, so we can try to organise this for you.
Who we are
The Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care Department consists of a team of chaplains and chaplaincy volunteers.
The chaplains are appointed by Northern Care Alliance (NCA) and are professionals from various beliefs, cultures and traditions, who are contactable 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Chaplains try to visit wards regularly, and receive referrals from staff, patients or visitors. If you would like to see a Chaplain from a specific belief or religion please ask a member of staff or contact chaplaincy directly. This may be for prayers, faith requirements or emotional support.
We are also supported by our friendly team of volunteers, who are skilled and experienced in providing support and a listening ear to all.
As a Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team we seek to:
- Offer person centred care to everyone, with respect and dignity
- Be inclusive, regardless of age, gender, race, culture, disability, sexuality or belief
- Value every person and ensure they receive the best possible care
- Provide advice and guidance regarding spiritual and pastoral care
- Listen with compassion and understanding
- Provide spiritual care, facilitates and resources to the best of our ability
What we do
The chaplaincy team provide emotional, pastoral, spiritual or belief-based support (including religious care).
Being in hospital is very different to normal life. It may be a time of uncertainty, struggle, fear and of coming to terms with new challenges.
This time may bring to the surface feelings that can be difficult. Sharing these thoughts and feelings can help. Chaplains are also here to celebrate steps on your journey.
Healthcare Chaplains are here for everyone. You do not have to be religious to see a Chaplain. Most of us at one time or another have to face searching questions and make difficult decisions, and at times like these it can help to talk to someone for support.
We offer person centred care to all those staying, visiting, receiving care or working in our hospitals. Where possible we try to fulfil belief based requirements and offer spiritual support which can include prayers, blessings, Holy Communion and other sacraments/rituals as required.
Support to Staff
The chaplaincy team is available to support colleagues by listening confidentially, non-judgementally, and with kindness.
Further information can be found on the chaplaincy NCA intranet sites.
What we provide
Whatever your circumstances you may need time for reflection in a place that is peaceful and quiet. Throughout the Trust there are prayer spaces for patients, visitors and staff.
- Christian Chapel
- Muslim Prayer Room and ablution facilities
- The Oasis Room (Salford only)
- Shabbos Room (Salford and Fairfield only)
There are copies of scriptures, artefacts and materials for a variety of beliefs available, please ask a Chaplain if you require any of these resources.
Emergencies and Bereavement
Chaplains are available to offer support, emotional, spiritual and religious care to patients and their loved ones through an emergency call-out service during life changing/life limiting situations and at end of life. Hospital staff will contact the duty chaplain through switchboard upon request.
If you would rather have a religious representative from your own faith community, the duty chaplain can try to contact them for you with your consent.
