The Maples is an 18 bedded Continuing Healthcare Unit for patients with long term Neurological conditions. We accept permanent and respite patients with a wide range of neurological issues such as:
- Brain Injuries
- Tracheostomies
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Huntington’s disease
- Motor Neurone disease
- Spinal Injuries
The unit consists of 18 side rooms. There are several lounges and a conservatory available for patients and relatives to use. We also have lovely gardens to the front and rear of the building for use.
Visiting
Visiting times on the unit is from 1pm - 8pm 7 days a week.
It is 2 people only at the bedside at any one time, but larger groups can use the lounges or the family room which have more space. Please do not sit on the bed as chairs are provided.

The current Unit manager at The Maples is Rachel Scholey, who can be contacted between 7am - 3pm Monday to Friday.

Recommendations
We recommend that as a relative you bring in some personal items such as:
- Clothes
- Pyjamas
- Underwear
- Safe footwear/slippers
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Toiletries
- Personal items such as photographs
We do advise on the Unit that any personal property such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc are brought in at your own risk.
Infection Control
Due to infection control precautions we are not able to have flowers on the unit.
Activities
We have an activities coordinator on the Unit who will take patients into our sensory room for relaxation and hand massages. We also have events and entertainment throughout the year.
