What is a Macmillan HPB/UGI support worker?
The Macmillan cancer support worker provides practical and emotional support to people living with cancer and their families.
They recognise information needs that people require may change over time and work with the person to ensure they receive the right support at the right time throughout their cancer journey.
Your HPB/UGI Support Worker
Your HPB/UGI support worker provides a service for Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary, Fairfield General Hospital and Salford Royal Hospital.
What Services do we offer:
- The opportunity to complete Holistic needs Assessment (a concerns checklist)
- The development of a personalised care plan
- We can support you at clinic appointments
- We offer face-face/Telephone/Video contact
- We help to coordinate a person’s care and support and can signpost to a wide range of services that may be of benefit
- We can arrange hospital transport for appointments
- We hold a monthly support group at the Maggie’s Centre (Oldham)
- We will invite you our Health and Wellbeing Events. (This is a semi – structured education event that offers relevant support and information to people living with and beyond cancer)
How can we help you?
We work very closely with your key worker/clinical nurse specialist and other members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) which includes doctors, nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
We are a key link to other professionals and services and communicate regularly with others involved in your care, for example your GP and district Nurse
