B7 is a 25 bedded male and female neurosurgical ward. We take patients with a wide range of neurosurgical issues such as:
- Brain Tumours
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Aneurysms
- A wide range of bleeds on the brain
- Hydrocephalous
- VP shunts
- External Ventricular Drains (EVD)
- Tracheostomy
The ward consists of 3 bays with 7 beds in each bay and 4 side rooms. There is a day room available for patients and relatives to use although they must comply with infection control precautions.
Visiting times on the ward
Daily between 10am until 7.30pm. It is 2 people only at the bedside at any one time and you are to use the chairs provided and not sit on the bed.
Protected mealtimes are from 12.30pm until 1.30pm and 5.30pm until 6.30pm, you may be asked to leave during these times.
We try to have quiet hour between 16:00 and 17:00 to give our patients some rest time after a potentially busy and active day. During these times lights may be turned down and any televisions or music will be turned down or headphones to be used.
Ward Manager
The current ward manager on B7 is Kirsty Gowers. She can be contacted on the ward between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

We advise that you ring the ward after 9am as the nursing staff will be completing medication rounds, personal cares and ensuring patients have had their breakfast.
Recommendations
We recommend that as a relative you bring in some personal clothes such as:
- Pyjamas
- Underwear
- Safe footwear
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Shower gel/Soap
We do advise on the ward that any personal property such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc are brought in at your own risk.
Due to the nature of the ward, we do not allow under 16 year olds on the ward, as advised earlier we have a day room to support with this if required.
We are unable to heat up any food on the ward as we have no facilities for this.
Infection Control
Due to infection control precautions the ward is not able to have balloons, fans or flowers on the ward at the bedside. We also advise that any photographs, pictures or letters are laminated so that they can be kept clean to prevent any infections.
