Neurology - Welcome to Ward C2

Ward C2 is a 20 bedded male and female hyper-acute neurological ward caring for patients who have sustained brain and spinal injuries.

The ward consists of 4 bays with 4 beds in each bay and 4 side rooms. We also have a day room for patients and relatives to occupy.

Visiting times

Visiting is every day between 2pm - 5pm and 7pm - 8pm.

It is 2 people only at the bedside at any one time. Please use the chairs provided and do not sit on the patients bed.

Protected mealtimes are from 12 noon - 2pm and 5pm - 7pm, you may be asked to leave during these times. If your loved one requires assistance during mealtimes you are welcome to come and support them.

We try to have quiet hour between 4pm - 5pm to give our patients some rest time after a potentially busy and active day. During these times lights may be turned down and any televisions or music will be turned down or headphones to be used.

Ward Manager

The ward manager on C2 is Sean Joyce, who can be contacted on the ward between 7am - 3pm Monday to Friday. If out of hours, please don’t hesitate to leave a message with one of the nursing team with a contact number and she will get back to you at the earliest convenience. Our ward practitioners are Henry Hill and Hollie Harper-Brighton.

Our ward clerks are Dot and Michelle. We advise that you ring the ward after 9am as the nursing staff will be completing medication rounds, personal cares and ensuring patients have had their breakfast.

Recommendations

We recommend that as a relative you bring in some personal clothes such as:

  • Comfortable lounge wear
  • Underwear
  • Pyjama’s
  • Safe footwear
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Shower gel/Soap

We do advise on the ward that any personal property such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc are brought in at your own risk and we will ask you to sign a form acknowledging this.

Please can you keep belongings to a minimum to ensure the ward is acting in accordance with infection control.

Children under the age 10 may not be permitted to visit the ward without Manager’s discretion. Please contact the ward manager to enquire.

We are unable to heat up any food on the ward as we have no facilities for this.

Infection Control

Due to infection control precautions the ward is not able to have balloons or flowers on the ward at the bedside. We also advise that any photographs, pictures, or letters are laminated so that they can be kept clean to prevent any infections.

If you would like to leave any patient/relative feedback, there are many options to be able to do this:

  • Patient Survey (QR Code available with staff)
  • Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS)
  • Feedback book kept on entrance to the ward
  • Questionnaires from the ward clerk
