Important notes/information about your flexion glove
- Your glove is to help to bend your fingers
○ You should wear the glove
○ You should wear the splint with a bar in under your flexion glove (see photo). Your therapist will show you how to fit this.
Fit the flexion glove as shown below
- The glove is to be worn 5 times a day for 10 minutes at a time. If you cannot wear the glove for 10 minutes at first, build up to wearing it for 10 minutes
- Make sure that the glove is pulled on fully so that it fits snugly into the webs between your fingers. See photographs for correct fitting
- Attach the Velcro tabs to the wrist band so that your fingers are pulled down as far as you can
- After about 5 minutes, once your fingers have relaxed, adjust the straps to bend your fingers further
- When you are not wearing the glove, attach all the Velcro finger tabs to the wrist band. If you do not do this, the glove may become damaged
- If you can pull the tabs beyond your wrist strap while bending your fingers, then please contact the Hand Therapy Department as we will need to adjust your glove
- It is important that you bring your glove to each appointment as it may need adjusting
- If you have a lot of pain or pins and needles/numbness when wearing the glove, loosen the Velcro straps. If your symptoms do not improve when the straps are loosened, stop wearing the glove and contact the department.
If you are concerned about your hand out of office hours and you think you need to see someone urgently, please contact your GP/Doctor or A&E department.
