This leaflet contains discharge advice following your attendance to the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) or Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).
You child has been diagnosed with a minor fracture (break) to one of the bones of the hand.
Discharge advice
These type of fractures heal well in most cases without any problems.
If you have been provided with finger strapping, this can be removed after 2 weeks and if you have been provided with a wrist splint this can be removed after 4 weeks.
Try to use your finger and hand after the strapping/splint have been removed.
The pain and tenderness will settle but this can take up to 6 weeks.
Most patients will have returned to their normal day to day activities within 3 weeks after the initial injury and will be able to take part in sporting activitiy after 6 weeks.
If your symptoms fail to improve by 6 weeks please contact us using the fracture line.
