Advice following cast removal

Your injury no longer requires a plaster/cast, but it is not fully healed. You should therefore avoid contact sports, Physical Education (PE), heavy lifting or manual work or any other activity, which may result in re-injury for the next few weeks.

You may find that your skin is dry, and you may like to use a moisturiser, although your skin will return to normal quickly. Extra care should be taken with the skin, as it is fragile following cast removal, shaving of legs for example should be avoided until the skin returns to normal.

Over the next few weeks while the injury continues to heal, you may experience some swelling, stiffness and discomfort. Regular movement and elevation and gentle exercise will help to reduce this problem.

You should return to normal activities gradually following the advice given by your doctor. For further advice, contact your own GP or if you have a further hospital appointment contact 0161 206 1673 or Plaster Room on 0161 206 4900.
