A semi rigid cast has been applied to your foot to reduce the pressure from the ulcerated or vulnerable area.
Please follow the instructions below to use the semi rigid cast correctly:
- Apply tubular bandage or a sock (if appropriate) to the foot
- Apply one or more layers of wool bandage to the foot as per the treatment plan and advice given. This should prevent any skin damage
- Apply semi rigid cast to the foot according to the markings (left/right foot, toes and heel direction). This should ensure that it is applied correctly
- Secure the semi rigid cast in place with a layer of tubular bandage. This should prevent the semi rigid cast from moving
- The semi rigid cast should not be placed directly against the skin as it could lead to skin damage and/or ulceration
- Ensure the semi rigid cast does not get wet/does not have contact with a heat source. This could result in the cast becoming soft and/or reduce its function
