Welcome to Oldham Care Organisation

Firstly, thank you for all you have done to support the people of Oldham, every day.  We are delighted to welcome you to the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and commit to working with you to ensure you can continue to give your best to the families and communities you serve.  Our mantra during this period of change has always been “what we know, you know”.  This commitment remains.

Our Oldham Care Organisation has been largely responsible for services predominantly based in The Royal Oldham Hospital (ROH), which lies within the Coldhurst area of Oldham on the boundary with Royton.  It was the birthplace of Louise Brown, the world's first successful in vitro fertilised "test tube baby", on 25 July 1978.

We still offer a full maternity service and have specialist facilities to care for premature babies in our level 3 neonatal unit; one of three in Greater Manchester. The hospital has a full emergency department and offers a comprehensive range of acute and general medical and surgical services, including gynecology and inpatient care for children.  Approximately 30% of those who attend A&E come from outside of Oldham. The site also provides more specialist services including clinical haematology and vascular services for the wider population of the North-East sector of Greater Manchester. Oldham Care Organisation is also responsible for endoscopy services on all four of our sites.

Over the next few years our specialist service offer will grow with a capital extension development build (£28m) being planned to create additional critical care facilities and theatre capacity as Oldham has been identified as a high acuity site under the Greater Manchester improving specialist care work.

In 2018 Community health services, previously delivered by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, transferred into the NCA. Oldham’s Community Children’s services became an integral part of the Women and Children’s division supporting the delivery of effective working relationships and creating an environment in which safe, efficient, and timely care is delivered to the families of Oldham who use our services.

We are genuinely delighted to see the 0-19 children services transfer into our Care Organisation in 2022. We are looking forward to the opportunities that having maternity services, paediatrics, and children’s community health alongside the 0–19 service will create and look forward to working with you to achieve the best for our staff and the families we serve.

The drivers for integration and this move to the NCA are to improve outcomes, deliver value, support innovation, and reduce unnecessary interventions including reducing hospital admissions and achieve our vision for community services which you have helped to create.

“Collective health and social care services work at a cluster level, supporting people to receive safe person-centred care, as close to home, and in as timely a way as possible”

Welcome to the Oldham Care Organisation family!
